: Gauhati Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged upon the Civil Aviation & Tourism Minister of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon to take steps for introducing direct flight between and Guwahati for better connectivity and improving trade and commerce for mutual benefits for both Bangladesh and Assam.
Chief Minister also requested the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Minister to accelerate trade and commerce with Assam through the International Trade Centres located at Assam-Bangladesh border at Golakganj in Dhubri district, Mankachar in South Salmara district and Sutarkandi in Karimganj district.
The Assam Chief Minister made this appeal, while meeting the Bangladesh Civil Aviation & Tourism Minister in Imphal, capital of Indian state of Manipur on November 21, during the North East Development summit. Menon assured the Chief Minister to consider his proposal favourably.
Sonowal advocated for synergistic efforts on the part of all the North Eastern States to expedite the development of North East and place the region as a centre of new paradigm of Act East Policy.
Sonowal said that the recent extension of International Fibre Optic Gateway at Cox Bazar in Bangladesh to Tripura would further accelerate the vision of digital North East.
