Tk 450 cr project taken to operate direct Sylhet-London flights

Sylhet : The government is working tirelessly for the development of aviation and tourism sectors of the country. A project involving Tk 450 crore has been taken up to operate direct flights between Sylhet and London.
AKM Shahjahan Kamal, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, said this-while talking to the leaders of Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) at the local Circuit House on January 19 evening.
Shahjahan Kamal said the runway of Osmany International Airport will be strengthened by increasing the overlay from eight inches to 14 inches and six more boarding bridges will be set up.
Considering the convenience of the passengers, afternoon flights will be operated- US-Bangla Airlines will operate the afternoon flights, the minister informed the SCCI leaders.
Places of natural beauty in Sylhet will be developed as tourist spots and Cox's Bazar-Sylhet flights will be launched, he said.
Felicitating the minister for taking up the responsibility of the ministry, Khandker Shiper Ahmad, President, SCCI expressed his optimism over the steps taken by the government for the development of the tourism sector.
The SCCI chief suggested introducing evening flights between the domestic airports of the country as well as earmarking a place at Osmany International Airport where relatives could meet or see off the passengers.
The chamber leaders called for initiating direct cargo services to Osmany International Airport as well as introduction of catering service there.
