70pc women suffering from the disease die without treatment

Dhaka: Every year 22,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Bangladesh. Among them, 70 per cent of the women die without any medical treatment. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women.

This information was shared in an event organised by Ahsa-nia Mission Cancer and General Hospi-tal on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Uttara in the city on October 2.

Quoting NICRH it said, the average age of patients who are suffering from breast cancer is 41 years. 89 per cent of all breast cancer patients are married.

Advocate Sahara Khatun, MP, former minister was the chief guest at the programme while Sujata Azim, Bangla film heroine was the special guest. Kazi Rafiqul Alam, President, Dhaka Ahsania Mission presided over the programme.

Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Director, Medical Services and Head of Radiation Oncology, Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital (AMCGH) delivered the welcome speech.

Health camp held in Narsingdi

DAM Foundation for Economic Development (DFED) organised the first medical health camp for patients of fistula disease at Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi district on September 27.

The day-long healthcare camp was held at Narandi Sharafat Ali Government Primary School ground of Shukundi Union of the upazila. Medical treatment was provided free of cost.

Expert doctors consisting of a two-member team from Monohardi Upazila Health Complex provided first aid treatment to 182 patients who suffering from fistula disease. Among them 84 patients were female and 98 were male.

Mohammad Asadikuzza-man, Assistant Commissioner (Land) inaugurated the health camp which was held under the "ENRICH" programme of DFED and with financial assistance of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foun-dation (PKSF).

Dr SM Khalilur Rahman, General Secretary, Dhaka Ahsania Mission was the chief guest while Md Asaduzzaman, Head, DFED, was present as special guest. Md Sadikur Rahman Sha-mim, Chairman, Shukundi Union Parishad also spoke on the occasion.
