British Airways identified 380,000 credit cards at risk
LONDON: British Airways revealed that hackers had skimmed credit card data from its website and app relating to 380,000 customers over a two-week period at the height of the summer season.
British Airways says customer hack much bigger than it thought. Further 185,000 people affected on top of original 380,000 and attack lasted months.
The International Airlines Group said an investigation into the theft of customers’ data and clarified that 244,000 of the original 380,000 payment cards identified had been affected, though it did not explain what it meant by “affected”.
On October 25, British Airways said that it was notifying the holders of another 77,000 payment cards that the name, billing address, email address, card, payment information including card number, expiry date and security codes had potentially been compromised.
Earlier British Airways apologized in September after the credit card details of hundreds of thousands of its customers were stolen over a two-week period in the most serious attack on its website and app.
A British Airways spokeswoman told media the airline would reimburse customers who suffered financial losses as a direct result of the data theft.
