IFALPA commends ‘hijacked’ Biman’s pilots for heroic efforts

Dhaka: Captain Ron Abel, President of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Association (IFALPA) has expressed his appreciation to Captain Golam Shafi and First Officer Muntasir Mahbub praising their heroic effort made in the Biman Bangladesh Airline’s Dhaka-Chattogram-Dubai BG 147 flight to protect the passengers and crew from a hijack attempt on February 24.
In a testimonial, the president of IFALPA admired their professionalism, intelligence and positive conduct stating that it had set an example for every colleague around the globe.
He also commended how well they handled this challenging situation and inspired future pilots to move forward.
“Because of the professionalism you demonstrated, your passengers and crew are safe today,” the testimonial said.
The hijack attempt of Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ BG 147 flight operated by Boeing 737-800 aircraft ended after spending two challenging hours at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport on February 24. All the 143 passengers deboarded the aircraft safely following a rescue operation led by the Bangladesh Army.
