Biman plane breaks apart after skidding off Yangon airport runway

Dhaka: An aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines broke apart after skidding off the runway at Yangon International Airport in Myanmar this evening.

The flight BG060 from Dhaka skidded off the runway while landing amid bad weather at the Myanmar airport today at 6:20 pm, said Shakil Meraj, General Manager – Public Relations of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The flight took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:45 pm.

The aircraft had 33 people on board – 29 passengers including a child, two pilots and two cabin crews.

There has been no report of casualty, however, several including a pilot sustained injuries.

Firefighters and multiple ambulances promptly arrived at the scene. Runway operations of the Yangon airport were suspended until further notice after the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft of the national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines crashed.
