Dhaka: Dubai based carrier Emirates brings a special inflight menu to celebrate Onam, an annual harvest festival of Kerala. The authentic Kerala meal is being served across all cabins on Emirates flights to and from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram until September 13.
The menu includes traditional appetisers such as crisp banana chips, banana roasted in jaggery and fried sundried chillies steeped in yogurt. Dips include kaalan made of coconut, yoghurt and yam; a garnished salad and a sweet and tangy ginger-based chutney.
First and business class passengers are also being served Kerala-style pappadam and mango pickle. Passengers travelling in economy class from Dubai to Kerala get to choose between two main dishes – Alleppey chicken curry or sambar made of lentils and vegetables and kootu. For desserts, milk pudding with roasted nuts is available.
Likewise, passengers flying from Kerala to Dubai in economy can choose between spiced chicken sukha with roasted coconut or sambar. They can conclude their meal with a lentil pudding.
All meals are being served on banana leaves placed in trays and dish liners across all cabins.
The Onam feast can be enjoyed with a selection of popular Malayalam movies and music available on ice, the airline’s inflight entertainment system.
