COVID-negative certificate mandatory to travel abroad: BD govt

Dhaka: All Bangladeshi citizens must have COVID-negative certificates from the coronavirus testing centres authorised by the government to be allowed to leave the country.

The move follows an inter-ministerial virtual meeting held today, July 12, chaired by AK Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, said a press release of the foreign ministry.

The meeting also recommended uploading all COVID-19 negative certificates on the website of respective authorised coronavirus testing authorities so that immigration officers can check their authenticity before allowing anyone to leave the country.

The meeting further concludes to install coronavirus testing facilities dedicated for Bangladeshi expatriate workers who intend to go abroad for job purpose under the Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry.

Imran Ahmad, Minister of Expatriate Welfare, Zahid Maleque, Minister of Health, and Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister of Foreign Affairs were also present on the occasion, the release stated.

Secretaries of the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment also attended the virtual meeting.
