TAT will be attracting first timers, luxury travellers to Thailand

Dhaka : Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will be trying to attract first timers to Thailand, Bangladeshis who had never travelled to the country before. The Thai NTO has created a micro site to encourage them to travel. Also in TAT's sight are luxury travellers.
The organistation will also promote the country as an ideal destination for family travel, for senior citizens, women travellers, luxury honeymoons for the newly-weds - and its capital Bangkok for value-for-money shopping.
Isra Stapanaseth, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, said this on the sidelines of NOVOAIR Dhaka Travel Mart 2019 held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka in the city recently.
Destinations for luxury travellers, special interest groups like people who love cruises, snorkeling or surfing will be promoted as will be travel to secondary cities and places where community-based tourism is being encouraged.
He said a total of 1,29,589 Bangladeshis travelled to Thailand in 2018, which was a rise of 6.43 per cent over the previous year. They provided a revenue of 6453.77 Baht million, a decrease of 1.67 per cent year-on-year.
He said over five years (2013-2017) the average growth in tourist arrivals from Bangladesh was 10.2 per cent while tourism receipts rose by 17 per cent in the aforesaid period.
He said five airlines operate a total of 36 flights offering 7772 seats every week.
Regarding how to get visas more conveniently, Isra Stapanaseth said as the new Ambassador has already taken up post in Dhaka, things (issuance of visas) are expected to get better.
Meanwhile, overall arrivals to Thailand from South Asia increased by 18 per cent to 1,652,590 tourists and tourism receipts to 74,215 million Baht, a rise of 21 per cent over the previous year.
Earlier at a seminar with travel partners Isra Stapanaseth said this year he would try to promote Thailand as "the Preferred Destination," expand special interest market base, and increase spending and expand medium and high-end market base.
Lifestyle experiences to be offered include wellness and spa, diving, fine dining, culinary tours, yachting (for which excellent marinas have been developed), sunset cruises, private villas, beach escapes and island getaways.
Isra Stapanaseth said for Muslim travellers there is a Salam e-Book Directory which lists Muslim-friendly hotels, religious facilities, services during Ramadan, Muslim-friendly tour programmes and hotels and restaurants where Halal food is available.
He also provided sample itineraries listing primary and secondary cities which can be travelled to by a combination of air, roads, railway and waterways.
