Govt taking steps to develop haor tourism: Mahbub Ali

Dhaka : The government of Bangladesh is taking all the necessary steps to develop haor tourism, said Md Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, adding that after the completion of the tourism master plan, detailed activities will be run for this purpose.
He made the statement as the chief guest at an online workshop organised by Bangladesh Tourism Board with Sunamganj district on September 10 in an effort to involve tourism with local development plans and create public awareness.
The State Minister mentioned how haor tourism have become popular among tourists in recently. Thus the local administration has a responsibility to ensure security of the tourists visiting haors.
At the same time, the State Minister urged to take effective measures to ensure the protection of the nature and environment of the haor.
The State Minister said, there is no alternative but to involve locals in the industry and create awareness among them to create a conducive environment for tourism by keeping nature intact. The people's representatives, local administration and the media have to work sincerely to create public awareness. Ensuring a tourist-friendly environment in tourist destinations will benefit the local people, he added.
The workshop was conducted by Abu Taher Muhammad Jaber, Director, Bangladesh Tourism Board and chaired by Md Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner, Sunamganj District.
Jabed Ahmed, CEO of BTB also spoke at the workshop.
