Asiana Airlines to exit Star Alliance after 23 years

Dhaka: Asiana Airlines will officially leave Star Alliance on December 16, 2026, ending more than two decades as a member of the world's largest airline alliance. The move comes as the South Korean carrier prepares to complete its long-awaited merger with Korean Air, marking a major shift in the country's aviation industry.
The airline joined Star
Alliance in March 2003 and has been part of the network for over 23 years. Its
departure is scheduled for 11:59 pm (local time) on December 16, allowing the
merger with Korean Air to take effect the following day.
Star Alliance thanked
Asiana for its long-standing contribution, praising the airline for helping
deliver a seamless travel experience across its global network. The alliance
also confirmed that customers can continue earning frequent flyer miles on
eligible Asiana-operated flights departing on or before October 15, 2026. Award
ticket redemptions, upgrades, and Star Alliance elite benefits, including
lounge access, will remain available until the airline officially exits the
alliance.
Asiana's departure will
reduce Star Alliance's membership to 25 airlines. The alliance will still continue
to maintain a strong presence at Seoul Incheon International Airport through
several member carriers serving destinations across Asia, Europe, North
America, and beyond.
