Dhaka: The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) organized a workshop titled “Civil Aviation and Air Traffic Operation” on July 20 at its headquarters in Kurmitola to strengthen journalists’ technical understanding of the country’s aviation sector.

The workshop, arranged by CAAB’s Public Relations Department, brought together journalists from various media outlets. CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq attended the event as the chief guest.

During the workshop, CAAB Member (Operations and Planning) Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob Khan delivered a presentation outlining the authority’s responsibilities, airport operations, passenger services, aviation safety measures, and the importance of complying with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). He also explained key aspects of airside and landside operations and modern air traffic management.

CAAB Member (Administration) Mohammad Lablur Rahman highlighted the authority’s initiatives to improve services for Hajj pilgrims, including waiving embarkation, passenger security, and airport development fees, distributing Zamzam water, providing dedicated prayer areas, drinking water, sanitation facilities, trolleys, wheelchairs, queue management systems, mosquito control, and infrastructure improvements.

A separate session on air traffic operations was conducted by CAAB Member (Air Traffic Management) Air Commodore Md Noor-e-Alam, who discussed air traffic control (ATC), air traffic flow management, navigation aids, instrument landing systems (ILS), aeronautical lighting, obstacle limitation surfaces, airfield operations, and emergency response procedures.

Addressing the participants, Chairman Siddiq emphasized that civil aviation is a highly specialized and technically complex sector where accurate and responsible reporting is essential. He said the workshop aimed to provide journalists with practical knowledge of airport management, air traffic operations, passenger services, and aviation safety to support more informed reporting.

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where journalists discussed various aviation-related issues with CAAB officials. Certificates were later distributed among the participants in the presence of senior CAAB officials.
