Biman completes Hajj operations without major disruptions

Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines has successfully concluded its 2026 Hajj operations, transporting more than 73,000 Bangladeshi pilgrims to and from Saudi Arabia while maintaining its regular international flight schedule without any major cancellations or significant disruptions.
According to the national flag carrier, Biman operated 98 pre-Hajj flights between April 18 and May 21, carrying 38,680 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. During the return phase, which ran from May 30 to July 1, the airline brought back 34,464 pilgrims on 104 post-Hajj flights and 12 scheduled flights.
In total, the airline transported 73,144 Hajj pilgrims during the pilgrimage season.
Despite the large-scale operation, Biman said it was able to continue its international and regional scheduled services throughout the Hajj season without any major flight cancellations or significant schedule changes.
The airline conducted the Hajj operation using 36 dedicated charter flights alongside 168 scheduled flights. During the period, it also transported more than 1,300 tonnes of additional cargo and carried around 23,500 regular passengers, highlighting its ability to balance Hajj operations with commercial services.
Biman attributed the smooth operation to advance planning, coordinated efforts, and the dedication of more than 1,000 employees. It also claimed that long flight delays and baggage congestion — common challenges during previous Hajj seasons — were largely absent this year.
To improve passenger experience, the airline distributed Hajj Care Packs among pilgrims and introduced a range of support services, including the Makkah Route Initiative, the Labbayk digital application, smart baggage tracking, Hajj prepaid cards, 24-hour medical support, and a dedicated Hajj Management Centre.
The airline also provided ground handling and passenger services for 76,197 pilgrims traveling on Saudia and Flynas flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Biman said the successful completion of the Hajj operation was made possible through the overall guidance of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the cooperation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders.
The airline reaffirmed its commitment to providing safer, more punctual, and world-class services in future Hajj operations.
